Spiritual Growth

Elementary school is a great time to establish foundation and spiritual growth for your kids. For the most part, they are eager to learn and respectful of authority. Since I was a schoolteacher, I was able to lead by example in areas of learning and work ethic. Instead of telling my son to do his homework before he could watch TV, we both had to do our homework before either of us could watch TV. Every school night for years, we sat together at the kitchen counter and shared that formative time together -- doing our homework.

These were the years to abide in God’s promise for my son:

Teach your children to choose the right path,
and when they are older, they will remain upon it.
(Proverbs 22:6)

I prayed for opportunities and strength to follow through with this promise.
Between ages seven and twelve, my son grew as a boy, as a student, and as a Christian. As for things of God, my son responded well to simple messages and simple songs -- a child’s approach to spiritual growth that is so loving and pure.

Jesus Loves the Little Children. . .

Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples,
"Let the children come to me. Don't stop them!
For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
(Luke 18:16-17)
