Prayers for Healing
My friends covered me in prayers for healing. My husband and I prayed constantly for God’s wisdom for us and for the doctors who were treating me. I felt God’s presence with me during decision-making and treatments. This gave me confidence and comfort. We started reaching out to others for support. It’s hard to be dependent on others and to ask for help, especially when you’re used to being very independent. However, a neighbor who drove us to an appointment when neither my husband nor I could drive said, “You have given us a blessing.” So, I tried to accept help and give blessings. I was soon on many people’s daily prayer lists, as well as several church prayer lists. I was anointed with oil and had hands laid on me by prayer groups at church. People talk about “being held up in prayer” and that is exactly how it felt--like all this prayer was holding me up out of harm’s way and making the ordeal of chemotherapy and radiation easier. Scientists have proven recently that “prayers for healing” help people cope with their illnesses and facilitate their recovery even when they don’t know someone is praying for them. They don’t know how it works, but it does.
Prayers for Healing -- Be Daring…
God is a loving, responsible Father. He will give us what is good for us (a carrot rather than candy). Prayer is daring when we truly seek God’s will – not my will be done, but Thy will be done.
Prayers for Healing -- Be Hopeful…
God is our hope and promise. He is in control and He does perform miracles. We are part of His family and He does love us. Even when we are in serious trouble, we do not need to be afraid, but just trust Him. He is concerned about our daily needs, as well as our problems. He can see the big picture and knows what is best for us. We need to rest in Him, obey Him, and seek His will daily through prayer and reading the scriptures. God looks at our hearts. Our problems can bring us closer to God and heal our hearts so we can reflect His light and love to others.
Prayers for Healing -- Find Strength…
God, give me the strength to face further cancer treatments. Help me see ways to use this painful time to pray with feeling for others.
